Translation
I translate texts from French into English and German into English, paying close attention to the target audience, context and translation brief of your source text and recreating it in stylish English.
I will usually consider working on projects slightly outside my areas of expertise, but I don’t translate medical, technical or legal texts.
I translate exclusively into my native language, British English. This allows me to recreate your text with an authentic tone and native-speaker expertise, giving it that all-important sparkle.
Proofreading
I proofread French to English and German to English translations. This involves checking the English translation against the original French or German source text and making small changes where necessary in order to ensure that it captures the style, tone of voice and essence of the original. This is known as bilingual proofreading.
I also proofread English texts written by either native or non-native speakers and check the grammar, punctuation, spelling and style, making amendments where necessary. This is known as monolingual proofreading.
Transcreation
I also offer transcreation, a service usually reserved for marketing materials and content such as slogans, taglines, website copy or texts of a literary nature.
Transcreation is a highly creative process which combines translation and copywriting. It involves moving slightly further away from the source text in order to expertly tailor a text to a cultural audience so that it has the same impact and tone of voice as the original.
While the cost of a translation is calculated according to my per-word rate, transcreation projects are charged by the hour.

Pricing & payment terms
The price of a translation or proofreading task is calculated on an individual project basis and depends on the length of the text, how specialised the language is and the urgency of the project.
I usually charge a per-word rate for translation and an hourly rate for transcreation and proofreading/editing projects.
For a free quote or to discuss a project in more detail, please get in touch.
I invoice my clients at the end of the month for work undertaken during that month. Payment is due within 30 days of the invoice date.
CAT tools & software
I use computer-aided translation tools, or CAT tools, to ensure that my translations are consistent in their use of terminology.
I have my own Trados Studio 2022 licence and I am an experienced user of memoQ. I have also worked with Memsource and Wordfast on occasion and am more than happy to use other tools on request.
